About Emi & Ko Studio
Hello! A question I often get is Who is Ko? Emi and Ko is a play on the words Emi and Company, with “ko” meaning child in Japanese, as my four children are a huge inspiration for my work.
I was born in the United States, but moved to my father’s home country of Japan as a young child and spent most of my childhood in Kobe, Japan. It was during those years that I first learned how to use a needle and thread and my interest in the fabric arts was sparked.
During graduate school I saw a gorgeous quilt in a friend's apartment that their grandmother had made. I didn't have any quilters in my family, so I knew that I had to be the first one!
As my family grew, so did the number of machines, totes of fabric, and time I spent quilting. I started Emi & Ko Studio in 2018, and made my hobby into a small business. What started as a spark of creative joy has grown into a daily part of my life that I now enjoy sharing with others.
